Son La localities mark 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day

Son La city on February 25 held a meeting to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 – 2025).

Attending the event were Ha Trung Chien, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the city Party Committee, and Chairman of the city People's Council; representatives of the provincial Department of Health; former leaders of the municipal Bureau of Health and the city Medical Centre; along with the medical staff.

Delegates reflected on the 70-year tradition of the Vietnamese Doctors' Day and the development of the city's health sector. Currently, the city Medical Centre consists of five departments and 12 commune and ward health stations, which have been newly built, upgraded, and equipped with modern facilities. The quality of healthcare management and primary healthcare services has continuously improved. The city has successfully eradicated polio and neonatal tetanus, while the rate of child malnutrition has steadily declined over the years. Additionally, health insurance coverage has reached up to 98%.

Local leaders extended congratulations to officials, doctors, and health workers on the Vietnamese Doctors' Day. They also expressed their hope that the medical staff would uphold the spirit of solidarity, innovation, dynamism, discipline, and responsibility in order to spur the growth of the city’s medical sector and better protect and improve public health, deserving the trust of the Party and the people.

On this occasion, the Chairperson of the provincial People's Committee awarded the "For the cause of building and developing Son La province" insignia to 17 individuals. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the city People's Committee presented certificates of merit to 19 others for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the city's health sector.

A similar event was held by the Thuan Chau district People’s Committee the same day, where participants reviewed the tradition of the health sector as well as the development of local medical units, and highlighted the significance of the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day.

Thuan Chau has a medical centre responsible for disease prevention and medical examination and treatment, along with a 300-bed, tier-2 general hospital and 28 commune and town health stations, staffed by 442 personnel.  

Medical units in the locality have employed various measures to improve their service quality. The reform of administrative procedures, the application of information technology in management and treatment, and the transfer of technical services to grassroots-level facilities have been promoted. The operations of commune health stations have gradually improved, with 12 out of 28 stations now upgraded to sturdy two-storey buildings.

On this occasion, the district People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 20 individuals for their marked achievements in protecting and caring for public health.

The Vietnamese Doctors’ Day was also observed in Moc Chau township on February 25.

Moc Chau’s health system has grown significantly, with substantial investments in modern infrastructure and medical equipment. The number of medical staff, including officials and health professionals, has increased, along with improvements in their expertise. Notably, all of its 15 medical stations now have doctors.

Moc Chau General Hospital has partnered with several central hospitals, such as Hanoi Medical University Hospital, the Vietnam National Children's Hospital, and Bach Mai Hospital, to put in place 20 advanced medical techniques for emergency care, surgery, and treatment. Meanwhile, Thao Nguyen General Hospital has invested in new technical services and modern equipment, including diagnostic tests for parasitic diseases, blood filtration using dialysis techniques, and endoscopic gastric hemostasis. The hospital’s bed occupancy rate has reached 115-120%.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Moc Chau township People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 18 individuals for their outstanding contributions to the local health sector.

Yen Chau district also held the celebration the same day.

Yen Chau district’s leaders extend congratulations on Vietnamese Doctors’ Day.

Yen Chau’s healthcare system has overcome numerous challenges and hardships, continuously growing and innovating. The district has a well-developed medical network, including a general hospital, a medical centre, and 14 commune and town health stations. With more than 300 hospital beds and nearly 400 medical staff, the sector effectively meets the medical examination, treatment, and healthcare needs of the local population.

Thanks to their dedicated efforts, many collectives and individuals in Yen Chau’s healthcare sector have received commendations and certificates of merit from the Ministry of Health and the provincial and district People's Committees, and other prestigious awards.

On this occasion, the district People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 13 collectives and 15 individuals.
