Son La marks 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 –2025), permanent members of Son La province’s Party Committee on June 16 hosted a meeting with local media leaders and journalists, and presented the 2024–2025 Suoi Reo Press Award.

The event saw the attendance of Lo Minh Hung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; and Trang Thi Xuan, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee; among other officials.

Over the past century, since the first issue of Thanh Nien Newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (President Ho Chi Minh) in 1925 in China’s Guangzhou, Vietnam’s revolutionary press has accompanied the nation, playing a key role in its journey of nation-building and defence.

In step with the growth of journalism nationwide, Son La’s media landscape and journalist community have steadily expanded in both scale and quality, marked by increasing professionalism.

The province is home to three press agencies: Son La Newspaper, Son La Radio and Television Station, and Suoi Reo Journal. Additionally, eight central media outlets have established representative offices and stationed permanent correspondents in the province. There are also three specialised media teams under the provincial Department of Public Security, the Military Command, and the Border Guard Command. These entities operate across various platforms, including print, radio, television, online media, and multimedia.

At the gathering, Hung extended congratulations to media agencies and journalists on the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. He praised their role as a frontline force in the ideological and cultural front. Their timely, accurate, and comprehensive reporting has effectively supported Son La’s development and modernisation.

Hung urged reporters to continue refreshing their thinking, sharpening their skills, upholding journalistic integrity, and effectively adopting new technologies. He stressed the importance of maintaining firm political mettle, strictly following professional standards, and producing compelling, high-quality content aligned with evolving media trends and audience demand, toward a professional, humane, and modern press landscape.

On this occasion, the judging panel of the 2024–2025 Suoi Reo Press Award presented five first, ten second, 15 third, and 25 consolation prizes to individual and group authors across various media categories. The Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee awarded certificates of merit to the first prize winners.

The organisers also launched the 2025–2026 edition of the Suoi Reo Press Award.
