On March 13, 1990, the Son La provincial Department of Electricity was established through the merger of local power generation facilities, serving as the predecessor of today's Son La Power Company.
Over the past 35 years, the company has overcome a host of challenges, continuously expanding to ensure a safe and stable power supply, supporting political tasks and socio-economic development in the locality, as well as meeting electricity demands for production, business, and daily life.
By 2024, the province’s electrification rate had reached 99.25%. The number of customers grew to 358,171, with commercial electricity consumption reaching 852.52 million kWh. The company’s revenue totaled 1.79 trillion VND (70 million USD), while power loss was reduced to just 4.25%.
Each year, the company collaborates with various organisations to implement community support programmes, with total funding amounting to nearly 1 billion VND.

Over the past 35 years, the Son La Power Company has been honoured with many noble awards from the Party, the State, ministries and agencies, including the first-, second-, and third-class Labour Orders, along with numerous certificates of merit and commendations. For many years, the company has received emulation flags from the Northern Power Corporation and the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) for its outstanding performance.

On this occasion, the Son La Power Company honoured 34 outstanding employees for their contributions to the company's development.
