Son La to hold simultaneous groundbreaking for 8 boarding schools in border areas

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Tien on October 24 chaired a meeting on investment in the construction of primary-secondary boarding schools in the province’s border communes. The event was held both in-person and online, connecting to 13 border communes across the province.

In line with the policy of investing in schools for border communes, Son La province has focused on directing and mobilising resources for the construction of inter-level boarding schools in all 13 border communes. The provincial People’s Committee has issued several key documents, including the decision to establish and supplement the Steering Committee for Project Implementation; Plan No. 207/KH-UBND dated October 9, 2025, implementing the “School Construction for Border Communes” campaign; and decisions assigning investors and applying special mechanisms to ensure project progress.

To date, all 13 communes have completed the overall site planning, and 12 have finalised land surveys, asset inventories, land origin verification, and publicised compensation plans. By October 25, all communes are expected to disburse compensation to residents. Investors are currently completing feasibility study reports to submit for appraisal and project approval by October 30.

The province has already held groundbreaking ceremonies for boarding schools in three communes: Phieng Pan, Chieng Khuong, and Muong Leo. Construction in eight other communes is scheduled for October 30, while Long Sap commune will host a national groundbreaking ceremony on November 2, 2025 under the Prime Minister’s direction.

At the meeting, Tien instructed local authorities to complete all site clearance work by October 30. Investors were urged to finalise project documents promptly, submit them for appraisal and approval, and ensure compliance with regulations to meet the province’s overall schedule.

He emphasised that investors should select contractors with sufficient capacity and experience, communicate thoroughly with construction units before signing contracts, and prepare detailed plans and schedules to be submitted to the Steering Committee for monitoring and supervision.

Regarding the Long Sap groundbreaking ceremony, the provincial Department of Public Security was assigned to coordinate with relevant agencies to develop a detailed event scenario, prepare for guest reception, and ensure absolute safety throughout the event.
