Artisans contribute to preserving intangible cultural heritage

Son La province now has two people's artisans and 33 meritorious artisans who have made great contributions to preserving intangible culture of ethnic groups.

Besides, many folk artisans have been quietly contributing to preserving and promoting the good values of the national culture.

Artisans in Muong Giang commune, Quynh Nhai district actively participate in cultural and artistic activities.

Each folk artisan dedicates himself/herself to each form of intangible culture, such as folk performing arts, script, folk literature, social customs and beliefs... Regardless of field or ethnic group, what artisans have in common is their endless passion for traditional culture. Some have spent their whole lives researching, collecting, and recording the folk knowledge of the nation in books.

More than 60 years of passionately researching and collecting Thai culture, people's artisan Lo Van La in To Hieu ward, Son La city owns a huge "fortune" with 27 volumes with nearly 17,000 pages featuring more than 3,000 articles written in Thai script on Muong village stories, prayers, folk songs, and proverbs. La shared: “The biggest thing I want when diligently researching ethnic culture is to preserve intangible cultural values for future generations through specific texts and scripts, not simply through oral or hand-to-hand transmission in the past”.

Quynh Nhai, a land with unique cultural traditions, preserves many unique festivals and cultural values bearing the characteristics of a river region. To do that, it has received the great contribution of artisans. Currently, the district has one people's artisan, eight meritorious artisans and 18 folk artisans who are deeply knowledgeable in different fields and have been contributing tirelessly to preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage of ethnic groups in the district.

Quynh Nhai district has many policies to prioritize and encourage artisans to constantly contribute to preserving and promoting ethnic cultures. It has regularly organized cultural activities, art exchanges, seminars and training courses, as well as re-enacted traditional festivals, providing artisans with opportunities to show off their talents and disseminate cultural values, thus promoting their role and responsibility in arousing love for culture and national pride among people, especially the younger generation.

As culture creators and members of the community, folk artisans are always trusted and respected by the community. Artisans, whether recognised or not, are diligently creating, contributing, and teaching folk songs, folk dances and folk knowledge to their descendants. In the current process of building cultural life, artisans play an increasingly important role, being an active factor in communications work to raise people's awareness of eliminating bad customs and practicing a civilized lifestyle, for a better life.
