Cultural house of La Ha ethnic people inaugurated

The Vietnam Youth Federation (VYF) Central Committee on September 21 coordinated with the Youth Union (HCYU)’ chapter in Son La province to inaugurate a cultural house of the La Ha ethnic group.

The event saw the attendance of Bui Quang Huy, First Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee on Youth, representatives from the Sai Gon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Sacombank), along with Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, and Vi Duc Tho, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Son La.

Delegates cut the ribbon to inaugurate the cultural house of La Ha people in Liep Te commune, Thuan Chau district

The construction of the 237.6 sq.m house, located in Hien hamlet, Liep Te commune, started in March 2023, with a budget of over 1 billion VND (41,097 USD). This is the fourth among the 16 cultural houses under the "Steps for the Community" programme initiated by the VYF with the support of Sacombank.

The house will serve as a space for collecting, researching, preserving, and promoting the values of traditional cultural heritage, in tandem with local socio-economic development. It will be also a venue for cultural activities of the community.

Bui Quang Huy, First Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee, hands over the funding for the construction of a local school.

On this occasion, the HCYU Central Committee and the VYF Central Committee also presented the funding for the construction of seven school facilities, two houses for orphaned children, and a playground for local children, with a total value of over 2 billion VND (82,000 USD). They also granted 20 scholarships (each worth 500,000 VND) to underprivileged ethnic minority children, and100 gifts, each worth 300,000 VND, to hamlet heads and patriarchs, prestigious individuals and households in difficult circumstances. Sacombank presented 20 gifts, each worth 1 million VND, to 20 disadvantaged La Ha families. Meanwhile, Thuan Chau district contributed exhibits worth 30 million VND to the cultural house.

Right after the ceremony, local residents participated in various cultural activities, such as the launch of a club for La Ha culture preservation and the re-enaction of the Pang A festival, as well as folk games and group dance performances, among others. They also received free health check-ups, medicines and health consultations.

With the support of youth union members, locals got citizen identification cards and set up level 2 electronic identification.
