Efforts made to preserve cultural traits

Members of the Yen Chau Ethnic Culture Preservation Group, established in 2018, have actively studied and collected documents on the ancient Thai script, traditional customs, and spiritual festivals of the Thai and Kho Mu ethnic minorities to include them in a book.

Students in Luong Me hamlet, Chieng Dong commune, Yen Chau district are taught how to make Pieu scarves.

Since 2021, the 20-strong group has maintained a class for the “khen be” (pan-pipe) and ten others for the Thai script in the communes of Chieng Pan, Chieng Dong, Chieng Khoi and Chieng Hac, attracting over 200 participants.

It has also collaborated with the Women's Union of Chieng Hac commune to establish a cross-generational Thai cultural club to promote traditional dance, songs and musical instruments, as well as weaving and embroidery among locals.
