Exloring unique cultures of Thai, Mong ethnic groups

The Son La provincial Museum has just organised an educational activity to experience the Xoe dancing of the Thai people, and the art of decorating patterns on traditional costumes of the Mong people.

Artisans and amateur artists of Ta So hamlet, Chieng Hac commune, Moc Chau district perform the Mong ethnic group’s panpipe dance.

Artisans and amateur artists have created a unique cultural space of the Thai and Mong ethnic people in the premises of the provincial Museum, introducing the Xoe dancing - recognised by UNESCO in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and the art of decorating patterns on traditional costumes – a national intangible cultural heritage.

People and visitors to the event had a chance to experience the unique cultures of the two ethnic groups such as Thai ethnic cuisine, pounding ‘giay’ cake (round glutinous rice cake), cooking ‘thang co’ – a specialty of the Mong people, and joining Xoe dancing, bamboo dancing and folk games like walking on stilts, and ‘tu lu’, and watching art performances.

The exciting activities attracted a large number of students and people in Son La city, and tourists inside and outside the province to visit, experience, and learn about the cultures of Son La's ethnic groups./.
