Joyful celebration of National Day on Moc Chau Plateau

A large number of locals and tourists gathered on the Moc Chau Plateau on September 1 to joyfully celebrate the National Day or Independence Day and participate in activities of the Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week 2025 titled “Moc Chau – The Call of Love Season.”

Attending the opening ceremony were Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Tien, leaders of communes and wards, along with a large crowd of residents and visitors from various provinces and cities across the country.

The Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week 2025 is held in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2. This is an important opportunity to promote the “Moc Chau National Tourism Area” and the brand “Moc Chau – The World’s Leading Nature Destination.” The event also aims to honour the unique cultural identities of ethnic groups and marks the first year of the two-level government model, organised with an inter-commune and inter-ward scale.

Amidst the lively atmosphere filled with the sounds of gongs and drums, visitors immersed themselves in the vibrant cultural space of local ethnic groups. They experienced community culture camps, traditional folk games, street cultural activities, and ethnic cultural performances, which attracted a large number of participants and spectators.

At their cultural camps, communes and wards showcased local cultural and tourism potential, spiritual spaces, traditional costumes, jewelry, farming tools, handicrafts, and specialty agricultural products. Various publications, images, and promotional materials on tourism development were also presented. Visitors had hands-on experiences with ethnic cultural practices such as brocade weaving, fabric pattern-making, Thai xoe dance, khen dance, bell dance, sap dancing, as well as ethnic sports and folk games.

The festival featured many cultural and sports activities, especially those of the Mong ethnic group. Highlights included exhibitions and interactive experiences in Mong textile art such as embroidery and beeswax painting. A standout attraction was the traditional gia banh day (sticky rice cake pounding) competition, with five participating teams from different communes and wards. This engaging and skill-demanding contest drew a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters.

A major highlight was the street cultural activities featuring performances by artisans and amateur artists from the Thai, Dao, Muong, and Mong ethnic groups. These took place at several spots along National Highway 6 and roads in Moc Son ward, drawing large audiences and active participation.

Blending into the excited crowd celebrating the Independence Day, Dinh Thi Huong, a tourist from Ninh Binh provincce, shared: "The natural scenery in Moc Chau is stunning, and the people are warm and welcoming. Coming here, I not only get to admire the beauty of ethnic cultures through their traditional costumes but also participate in unique cultural activities. It’s been a memorable and enjoyable experience this National Day."

In the ethnic cuisine showcase, various unique and culturally rich dishes such as grilled stream fish, grilled chicken, ga mo (a local chicken dish), and five-coloured sticky rice were skillfully prepared by artisans. These visually appealing and flavorful dishes attracted large crowds of tourists.

During this time, visitors also had the opportunity to explore various cultural and tourism activities at major tourist sites across local communes and wards, including Moc Chau Walking Street; Bach Long Glass Bridge; Happy Land Tourist Area; Pine Forest Tourism Area in Ang hamlet; community-based hamlets like Ta So, Doi, Na Ang and Vat Hong; and historical and cultural landmarks such as Doi Cave, the Tay Tien Regiment 52 Memorial Site, Moc Ly Fort, and Chien Vien Pagoda.

This event is also an occasion to promote and introduce the land and people of Son La in general and the Moc Chau National Tourism Area in particular to a wider domestic and international audience, contributing to tourism development.

The Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week is the largest annual cultural and tourism event on the Moc Chau Plateau. With a rich variety of cultural, sports, and tourism activities, it offers a festive occasion for people and tourists to meet, have fun, shop, and engage in cultural and sports activities, contributing to enhancing the spiritual life of ethnic communities within and beyond Son La province.
