Provincial leader calls for solutions to increase budget revenue

Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet on August 17 chaired a working session with leaders of provincial departments and agencies on implementing the 2026 local budget revenue estimate and formulating the estimate for 2027.

The meeting also saw the presence of leaders of the State Bank of Vietnam’s Region III branch, the provincial Taxation Sub-Department, the Son La Customs Sub-Department, the Son La Statistics Office, the Son La Hydropower Company, and the provincial Land Fund Development Centre.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet presides over the meeting on implementing the 2026 local budget revenue estimate.

For 2026, Son La has been assigned with a State budget revenue target of nearly 4.76 trillion VND (181.5 million USD), while the provincial People’s Council has set the target at 5.05 trillion VND. As of August 15, total budget revenue had reached 3.37 trillion VND, equivalent to 70.9% of the estimate assigned by the Government, 66.7% of the estimate set by the provincial People’s Council, and 98.4% of the figure recorded in the same period last year.

Based on eight-month revenue collection results and forecasts for the remaining months of the year, the provincial Taxation Sub-Department estimates that State budget revenue in Son La will reach 5.75 trillion VND in 2026, equivalent to 120.9% of the estimate assigned by the Government and 113.9% of the figure set by the provincial People’s Council.

At the meeting, delegates discussed the implementation of the 2026 budget revenue estimate and proposed solutions to address difficulties and ensure the fulfillment of the yearly target, as well as formulate the estimate for next year.

For 2027, according to the provincial Taxation Sub-Department, the Department of Taxation under the Ministry of Finance is expected to assign Son La a State budget revenue target of over 7 trillion VND, 1.21 trillion VND higher than the 5.79 trillion VND proposed by the provincial Taxation Sub-Department.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet speaks at the meeting.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Viet asked the provincial Taxation Sub-Department to coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, and commune- and ward-level People’s Committees to strictly implement the Law on Tax Administration and other relevant regulations; strengthen revenue management across the province; and ensure that all State budget revenues are collected correctly, fully and promptly. This will help generate additional resources for development investment, social welfare policies, socio-economic development tasks, and national defence, security and external relations.

The province aims to increase revenue from taxes and fees, particularly from the business and production sector and value-added tax (VAT), while gradually reducing its reliance on land-related revenues. In the coming period, agencies and businesses are urged to continue working closely together to help the province effectively fulfill its local budget revenue targets and promote socio-economic development.

Regarding the 2027 budget revenue estimate, the Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee requested relevant departments and agencies, particularly the Department of Finance, to advise the province on preparing a report to the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Taxation. The report, he said, should provide a thorough analysis of relevant conditions to ensure that the proposed estimate is realistic and aligned with the province’s actual conditions and capacity./.
