Khai ha festival opens in Phu Yen district’s Tan Lang commune

The Khai ha (going down to the field) festival was held in Mo hamlet, Tan Lang commune, Phu Yen district on February 16, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year. This was the first time that Tan Lang had organised such festival at the communal level.

Residents of Mo hamlet plow the first furrows.

The festival was to welcome the spring, and pray for good health, bumper crops, prosperity, and happiness in the New Year.

It consisted of two main parts - rituals and festive activities. The rituals involved offering to the Gods of Land and Mountain, who have blessed the community in establishing hamlets, growing rice and making homes.

It was performed by a Mo shaman representing local residents. Offerings included pigs, chickens, sticky rice, wine, and sweets arranged carefully on leaf trays.

The festive part featured folk games and art performances honouring the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, and highlighting patriotism and reforms in Phu Yen. They helped promote patriotism, strengthen the great national unity bloc, and preserve and uphold traditional cultural traits./.
