Legend has it that in the 14th century, invaders with yellow banners ravaged the northwestern region. Filled with hatred for the enemy, Miss Han disguised herself as a man under the name Tao O and rallied young men from various hamlets to unite and fight the invaders. She led the uprising of 16 Thai territories, defeating the enemy. In Muong Trai, Miss Han stationed her troops for six months to fight the invaders. To honour contributions of the heroine, the people of Muong Trai hold an annual ceremony to worship her.

The festival features ceremonial and festive activities. Before the dramatised festival, the commune conducted a ritual offering flowers and offering at Miss Han Temple, reporting on preparations and inviting her to join the festival. A shaman presented a tray of traditional buffalo meat dishes in gratitude to Miss Han and the deities. The ritual followed historical descriptions and scripts to preserve and promote ethnic cultural identity.
The festive activities included a dance re-enacting Miss Han’s battle, folk performances, along with a cooking contest and traditional sports competitions.
