Every year, around the end of November, when the harvest season is over, the people of Yen Chau commune organise the New Rice Festival to express gratitude to heaven and earth for a year of favourable weather and abundant crops. The festival consists of two parts: the ritual and the festive activities.

The new rice offering ritual is conducted solemnly with offerings such as pork, chicken, rice wine, fruits, green rice flakes, and upland sticky rice. The shaman represents the community in offering thanks to the ancestors, heaven and earth, and the deities for blessing the village with a fruitful year and a prosperous life.

The festive part features a cultural exchange programme with 34 performances showcasing the distinctive cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group. Over 200 artisans and performers from cultural preservation clubs within and outside the province take part. Traditional dance performances such as the xoe dance, folk singing, and musical instrument presentations create a vibrant cultural scene that captivates the audience.
