The Xip xi (the 14th) festival of the white Thai ethnic group is held on the 14th day of the seventh lunar month annually, during which white Thai people pay tribute to their ancestors and give special care to younger generations. The festival is also considered the one for children as they receive much care and new clothes from their parents on this occasion.
This year’s festival brought together 11 teams from 11 hamlets in Quang Huy commune. They completed in a traditional fashion show and food arrangement. In the fashion show, the contestants showcased traditional costumes with brocade patterns. Although the costumes have been modernised to suit the contemporary life, they still keep the traditional cultural identity of the white Thai group in Phu Yen district. For the food arrangement competition, the teams presented traditional Xip xi dishes with “it uoi” – a traditional cake, and duck meat. They also brought to the event other dishes to make the food trays more diverse and attractive.
The festival helped strengthen solidarity between ethnic groups in Quang Huy commune and contributed to promoting the good cultural traditions of white Thai people among young generations and visitors.
Organisers presented two first, four second and six third prizes, and auxiliary prizes to the participating teams in the food arrangement competition, while 11 individuals also received prizes in the fashion show.
On this occasion, the communal Party Committee granted 22 gifts to students with outstanding academic achievements in the 2022-2023 school year.
