Inspired by the traditional Thai folk song “Xong chu xon xao” (Farewell to a Lover) – an epic ballad about love, separation, and reunion, the exhibition is a collaborative creation by four artists: Thu Tran, Tay Phong, Le Thi Minh Tam, and Nguyen Tran Thao Nguyen. Through the languages of painting, music, and installation art, the artists portray a journey of preserving memories, narrating a love story, and honouring the inner beauty of Thai women – gentle, loyal, yet resilient.

The exhibition space is highlighted by two traditional stilt houses, adorned with 150 phum (a part of the Thai weaving loom), 100 spinning reels, and five large clusters of silk threads painted abstractly on vibrant pink organza fabric. These elements are interwoven to symbolise the silk road. On the roofs are seven installations made from 25-metre-long coarse fabric panels, painted and softly cascading from the roof to the floor, evoking the flow of memories – threads of love that connect the past with the present.

The unique and impressive art space.
Taking place from October 9-12, the “Xong chu xon xao” exhibition has brought a poetic and vibrant art space to the heart of Tay Bac Square, attracting a large number of locals and tourists.
A key highlight of the exhibition is 17 abstract paintings in delicate hues, offering a fresh perspective on Thai ethnic women – guardians of lifestyle, culture, and the spiritual essence of the Northwest mountains and forests.

The "Xong chu xon xao" exhibition honours the beauty of Thai ethnic women.
