Xen Lau No festival re-enacted in Yen Chau district

The provincial Museum on March 20 re-enacted a traditional festival called “Xen Lau No” in Chieng Pan commune, Yen Chau district.

A ritual at the Xen Lau No festival.

Through rituals and festive activities at the festival, locals expressed their gratitude to gods and ancestors for their blessings of good health and bumper crops.

They prepared pork, chicken, eggs, wine, betel and areca for various rituals like “Tham phi huon” (ancestor worship), "Dong tu xua" (inviting gods to witness and bless locals), and "Xong mot" (sending off gods). The most important is “Tam khuon luk lieng” for those who are saved by shamans. After each ritual, people danced together around the "Xang Boc" tree, praying for good weather, bumper crops, good health, happiness and prosperity.

This is a unique and humane cultural activity of the Thai ethnic group in the northwestern region, helping raise their spiritual life, confidence and willpower, and encouraging them to lead a good life and uphold national solidarity.
