Chieng Pan commune’s Than hamlet has 56 households, all of them from Kho Mu ethnic group. Twice a month, its "women tell stories" group organizes activities and exchanges. Its members teach each other to dance, sing folk songs, knit, make musical instruments, and embroider Kho Mu ethnic costumes. They also regularly encourage people in the hamlet to preserve traditional costumes including Pieu scarves, com shirts and head scarves; maintain the new rice celebration and preserve the Velr Guong dance imbued with the identity, beliefs, and tradition of community and family solidarity of Kho Mu ethnic people.

Sap Vat commune, recently, held the Dong Sua Festival for the first time, with many activities such as thanksgiving ceremony and god worshipping for people’s peaceful and prosperous life, good weather and bumper crops; Pieu scarf embroidery and basket weaving contests, ‘con” ball throwing and bamboo dancing; and a booth displaying local brocade products, agricultural products, and cuisine. Through the festival, the commune introduced the culture, customs and practices of the Thai ethnic group to visitors, contributing to preserving and promoting historical and cultural values; and attracting investment to develop community-based tourism in the locality.

Implementing the project "Preserving and promoting fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minority groups associated with tourism development" under the National Target Programme on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the Yen Chau district People's Committee has coordinated with the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to survey literary and artistic values and reenact typical traditional festivals of local ethnic minorities. Every year, it directs and guides communes to preserve and promote the cultural identity values of ethnic groups, such as language, script, festivals, and traditional crafts; establish clubs to conserve and uphold the cultural values of ethnic groups; and organize cultural and sports festivals.

From the funding of the national target programme, the district has supported 370 million VND (15,240 USD) for traditional art teams of hamlets in Phieng Khoai, Sap Vat and Chieng Pan communes; invested in building cultural and sports facilities in seven hamlets in Chieng On commune; guided the reenactment of Han Khuong Festival in Chieng On commune and Dong Sua Festival in Sap Vat commune; organized cultural and sports festivals in border communes. Currently, over 98% of hamlets in the district have cultural houses and maintain the operation of 182 art teams, gradually improving cultural and spiritual life for locals.

Yen Chau district has proposed the provincial authorities to remove difficulties and obstacles during the implementation process. By 2025, it strives to have all hamlets with cultural houses and traditional cultural and art teams operating regularly with high quality, contributing to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minority groups associated with sustainable tourism development.
