With the theme "Developing a reading culture to promote lifelong learning," the week runs from October 1-7. To foster a reading culture, the city is implementing various community library models and developing initiatives like "Houses of Intelligence" and "Libraries of Compassion." There are also policies to encourage participation in movements such as learning family, learning clan, learning community, learning unit, and learning society.

The week not only honours the value of knowledge and learning but also emphasises the role of reading culture - a crucial element in building a learning society and developing well-rounded individuals. This year, the week aims to inspire and promote a spirit of inquiry and encourage reading habits among residents. Teachers and parents are encouraged to be role models in reading and learning, guiding students to treasure books and explore knowledge through reading.

The city People's Committee will continue to step up the building of “Houses of Intelligence” and “Libraries of Compassion” in various hamlets and schools, contributing to meeting criteria for Son La city to receive the “UNESCO Global Learning City" award in the 2025-2030 period.

During the launch ceremony, delegates, civil servants, public employees, and students participated in a bike parade around the Northwest Square. The organisers of the "Son La - My Beloved Global Learning City" competition displayed dozens of paintings on diverse topics, including environmental protection and the beauty of Son La.
