Attending the conference were representatives of several departments of the provincial Department of Public Security, along with passenger transport enterprises, bus station service operators, and road motor vehicle inspection units across the province.
At the conference on implementing measures to ensure traffic safety and passenger transport services during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival 2026
Son La province currently has more than 18,330 km of roadways, including 10 national highways with a total length of nearly 900 km; 22 provincial roads extending over 1,163 km; 372 urban roads totaling approximately 301 km; more than 1,230 commune-level roads with a length of over 6,340 km; and rural routes with a total length exceeding 9,620 km. In addition, the province has 11 bus stations.
At present, passenger transport activities include 140 fixed interprovincial routes from Son La to 18 provinces and cities, operated by 70 transport enterprises from both within and outside the province. Of these, 13 passenger transport enterprises based in the province operate more than 95 routes. In 2025, the total number of passengers transported exceeded 6 million.
In 2025, the Department of Construction coordinated with the provincial Department of Public Security, local authorities, and socio-political organisations to extensively implement legal awareness campaigns on traffic safety for the public and transport business units. The management of transport operations, vehicles, and drivers was tightened; transport fares were strictly controlled; and transport activities developed steadily, meeting the travel needs of the people and contributing to socio-economic development. Efforts to curb traffic accidents were strengthened, resulting in an 11.6% reduction in the number of accidents compared to 2024.
At the conference, representatives of passenger transport enterprises, bus station service operators, and road motor vehicle inspection units discussed and provided opinions on passenger transport operations and traffic safety on routes, striving to reduce traffic accidents across three criteria: the number of accidents, fatalities, and injuries. Measures were also proposed to address traffic accident “black spots”, supplement traffic signs and road markings, inspect transport infrastructure, and promptly repair damage.

The Department of Construction requested passenger transport enterprises to develop plans to mobilise maximum resources and ensure sufficient vehicles to serve people’s travel needs during the Lunar New Year; arrange an adequate number of drivers and onboard service staff who meet health requirements; and conduct thorough technical inspections, repairs, and periodic maintenance of vehicles. For bus stations, efforts should be strengthened to ensure security and order, preventing theft, disorder, and passenger solicitation or competition.
