New-year meeting held for Lao students in Son La

Son La province’s Liaison Committee of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts in Laos on February 25 coordinated with Tay Bac University, Son La College and Son La Medical College to organise a meeting for Lao students on the occasion of Vietnam’s Lunar New Year and the Bunpimay (New Year) festival of Laos.

At the event, delegates recalled the tradition of special friendship between Vietnam and Laos; as well as the deep memories in the mind of every volunteer officers and soldiers performing international missions in Laos, who worked side by side with the Lao army and people to defeat the common enemy and gain independence and freedom for the peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

The comprehensive cooperation programme between Son La province and nine northern Lao provinces has been implemented across the fields of agriculture, education-training, health, culture, sports and tourism, defence and security. Of which, human resources training is an important, long-term strategic cooperation content, with practical results. Son La province has always created favourable spiritual and material conditions for Lao graduates and students to study in the locality.

The meeting encouraged Lao students studying in Son La province, and contributed to educating and raising awareness of the people, especially the young generation, of the two countries, about the meaning and importance of the solidarity, fighting alliance and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, thus together preserving, strengthening and cultivating the Laos - Vietnam, Vietnam - Laos special relationship.
