Son La, Laos’ Houaphanh strengthen cooperation in fighting cross-border crimes

A delegation from the Son La provincial Department of Public Security led by Secretary of the Party Committee and Director Major General Nguyen Ngoc Van has paid a working visit to the Department of Public Security of Laos’ Houaphanh province.

The Son La delegation was received by Major General Phetson Insuphan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Houaphanh Department of Public Security.

At their working session, the departments exchanged information about efforts to ensure security and order since the beginning of 2024. Based on the signed memorandum of understanding, they have strengthened close cooperation and coordination in preventing schemes and activities of sabotage by hostile forces. They have intensified efforts to fight against all types of crime, particularly drug-related crime, and to address issues related to border security and order.

The Son La provincial Department of Public Security delegation holds a working session with Houaphanh counterpart.

Notably, they have collaborated in investigating and uncovering several major drug trafficking ring across the border, maintained the exchange of experience in ensuring border security and order, regularly persuaded border residents to abide by the agreement on border regulations. They have worked closely together to promptly address emerging issues in each area, contributing to building and maintaining stability, security and order in the region.

The two departments signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation to ensure security and order in 2025. On this occasion, the Son La Department of Publci Security donated 200 million VND (4,000 USD) and 2 tonnes of rice to its Houaphanh counterpart.
