Timely emergency treatment for 4 Lao children poisoned by wild mushrooms

The Vietnam - Laos Friendship Military-Civilian Medical Station at the Long Sap Border Gate Border Guard Station in Moc Chau district has recently received four Lao children poisoned by wild mushrooms.

 

The Lao children are promptly taken to Moc Chau district’s General Hospital by the Son La provincial Border Guard.

The children, aged from 2-10, all residing in Muong hamlet, Sop Bao district, Houaphanh province of Laos. Before that, they had picked mushrooms from the forest to grill and eat, then they showed symptoms of vomiting and acute diarrhea, so their families took them to the communal station for emergency treatment. Here, they showed symptoms of pale skin, lethargic eyes, dry lips, rapid breathing, and frequent vomiting.

The military medical officers and the mobile medical team serving the Vietnam - Laos Defence Friendship Exchange Programme initially diagnosed them with wild mushroom poisoning, and performed first aid. Then they reported the case to the Long Sap Border Gate Border Guard Station’s Command and took them to the district General Hospital for emergency treatment.

At the hospital, the children were given emergency treatment, gastric lavage, intravenous fluids, and electrolyte replacement. Currently, they have been out of danger.
