Livestreaming – the “key” to expanding markets

The application of science and technology in production, combined with proactive engagement on e-commerce platforms and livestreaming to introduce and sell products online, is creating momentum for Son La’s agricultural products, helping expand market access, enhance their position, and promote the digital economy.

Young people and household businesses in Muoi Noi commune are guided to use livestreaming software.

Luong Van Tuan from Thao Nguyen ward is one of the influential content creators who has successfully used livestreaming to boost the consumption of local agricultural products, attracting millions of followers on Facebook and TikTok. Tuan shared that he has lived and worked in Son La for over 30 years so he deeply understands the potential of local agricultural products and always strive to widely promote them.

“I proactively create introduction videos, collaborate with e-commerce platforms and local authorities to livestream the sale of agricultural products. In 2025, I participated in the Mega Livestream at the Son La OCOP (One Commune One Product) Fair in cooperation with the Department of Industry and Trade and coordinated with the provincial Centre for Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion to livestream agricultural products during the 130th founding anniversary of the province. This helped connect the sale of tens of tons of products and expand cooperation with many cooperatives. Currently, I continue to collaborate with cooperatives and farmers to promote seasonal agricultural products,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 19/5 Agricultural Services and Development Cooperative in Van Son ward, with 25 years of development, has continuously innovated cultivation methods and improved product quality. The cooperative focuses on deep processing of fresh fruits with a capacity of 300-500 tons per year, producing standout products such as plum wine, apricot wine, dried plums, and dried apricots.

Notably, the cooperative has six products certified OCOP at three stars or higher and achieved US FDA certification in 2024. With provincial support, the cooperative built a professional website to showcase its formation process and products. At the same time, it posted processed products on e-commerce platforms, produced videos, and livestreamed to promote raw material regions and production processes. As a result, approximately 40% of its output is sold through online channels.

Preparations are underway for the 2025 Mega Livestream at the Son La OCOP Fair.

With abundant agricultural potential, producers in the province are actively promoting digital transformation in business. Alongside maintaining 262 safe agricultural supply chains and 214 OCOP products, and exporting to 45 international markets, many businesses proactively innovate sales methods. They create digital content, collaborate with content creators, and leverage e-commerce platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Shopee to livestream products. This transformation has effectively promoted the province’s signature OCOP products and brought significant profit growth for many businesses.

Nguyen Phuong Ly from the Digital Commerce and Technology Development Centre under the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s E-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency, stated that applying e-commerce is the ‘key’ for businesses, cooperatives, and household enterprises to expand markets and enhance product value. However, many Son La OCOP products are traditional, small-scale, and have limited online business skills. Therefore, producers need to actively improve digital skills to increase competitiveness. Specialised agencies should strengthen training, cooperate with e-commerce platforms, and support businesses, cooperatives, and farmers in accessing new sales methods, creating stable and sustainable market outlets.

Vietnam Post cooperates with the residents of Phieng Khoai commune to livestream and introduce ‘hau’ plums.

Proactively applying digital technology, improving the quality of OCOP products, and effectively using livestreaming to build brands are the “keys” to expanding markets and increasing the value of agricultural products. At the same time, with the cooperation between production sectors and strategic support from government agencies, Son La has the foundation to promote the digital economy and bring its signature products to strong positions in domestic and international markets.
