Currently, there are 85 cooperatives in Muong La district, operating in various sectors including agriculture, forestry, fisheries, industry, handicrafts, commerce, and services, with a total of 548 members. According to Nguyen Van Tam, Vic Chairman of the district People's Committee, the district has effectively implemented policies that support and create opportunities for cooperatives to expand production and business. It has also directed specialised agencies to enhance training programmes and the transfer of production techniques to cooperatives, helping them transition from traditional farming methods to modern ones to produce safe, high-quality agricultural products. Additionally, the district has boosted trade promotion activities and provided opportunities for cooperatives to participate in fairs and expand their connections with businesses under value chains.
Since 2020, the district has provided more than 1.5 billion VND (59,000 USD) to assist cooperatives in purchasing packaging for their products, supporting the promotion and advertising of agricultural products through media outlets, and helping them print traceability labels and obtain VietGAP certification. Many cooperatives have operated effectively and actively introduced local agricultural products. Furthermore, the district has supported the application of science and technology in production, helping farmers change their cultivation practices and access markets more effectively.
Founded in August 2019, the Muong Bu Agricultural Cooperative, located in Sub-zone 2, Muong Bu commune, has actively encouraged its members to invest in and apply science and technology to enhance productivity and product quality. The cooperative currently has 28 hectares of mangoes, 12 hectares of longans, and 12 hectares of citrus trees. Vu Dang Ke, director of the cooperative, shared that since the beginning of the year, the cooperative has sold more than 80 tonnes of fruits, providing stable jobs with an average annual income of 140 million VND per member, while also creating seasonal employment for 20 locals.
In 2020, Luong Van Xien in Ngoc Chien commune initiated the establishment of the Ngoc Chien Community-based Tourism Cooperative, focusing on improving and upgrading accommodation, kitchens, and other facilities to serve tourists. Xien, who serves as director of the cooperative, said with support from the district, the cooperative received 280 million VND to establish an email inbox, website, and fanpage for product promotion and interaction with consumers. It has standardized products to meet the tourism criteria in the OCOP (One Commune Once Product) programme, receiving a 4-star OCOP certification. As a result, the cooperative has become more popular among tourists. Since 2022, it has served about 50,000 visitors, generating over 12 billion VND in revenue and creating jobs for 100 members and local workers.
The cooperatives are operating effectively, contributing to improving the quality of safe, clean agricultural products that meet specific standards. They have increased the value of these products, ensuring stable sales, boosting rural production, and improving the livelihoods of local communities as part of the new-style rural development process.
