The Sub-department has issued over 300 documents, including decisions, plans, official letters, and reports, to concretise directions from central and provincial authorities. At the same time, inspection and control efforts have been strengthened across multiple sectors, ranging from essential consumer goods such as food, beverages, confectionery, to sensitive items like fuel, liquefied gas, and tobacco. Authorities have focused inspections on wholesale markets, warehouses, key transport routes, and online business activities.
In particular, amid the risk of fuel supply disruptions, market management forces have proactively monitored business activities, promptly detecting and handling violations such as hoarding and illegal price hikes, ensuring stable supply for the public.
Administrative inspection and violation handling have been carried out decisively, achieving significant results. Since the beginning of this year, market management forces have inspected over 300 cases and handled 273 violations, a sharp increase from the same period last year. Total state budget revenue has exceeded 2.4 billion VND (91,161 USD), up nearly 198.8%, while the value of confiscated and destroyed goods has surpassed 1.2 billion VND.
Violations mainly involve trading in smuggled goods, goods of unknown origin, food safety breaches, commercial fraud, and violations related to labeling, measurement, and product quality. Notably, 67 cases related to food safety violations have been handled, with fines exceeding 460 million VND. These results reflect the strong and determined actions of authorities in restoring market order.
Several typical cases highlight the complexity of violations. During the Lunar New Year period, Market Management Team No. 1, in coordination with the PC03 unit of the provincial Department of Public Security, inspected a transport vehicle in Chieng Sinh ward and discovered over 2.2 tonnes of spoiled frozen meat without proper documentation. The owner was fined 35 million VND and required to destroy all violating goods. Previously, Market Management Team No. 3 inspected a business household in Thao Nguyen ward and found 20 iPhones without valid invoices or documentation. Authorities imposed a fine of 35 million VND and confiscated all violating items, valued at over 85 million VND.
In addition to inspections, the Sub-department has coordinated with other enforcement forces such as the police, customs, and border guards to combat smuggling and commercial fraud. Since the beginning of the year, joint efforts have resulted in the inspection and handling of 211 cases, with total fines nearing 1.5 billion VND and violating goods valued at nearly 1.2 billion VND. This coordinated approach has enhanced management effectiveness, especially in key areas.
Furthermore, legal dissemination and education efforts have been strengthened. Authorities have enabled 633 businesses to sign compliance commitments, distributed nearly 1,200 leaflets, and published numerous articles and broadcasts through mass media, contributing to improved awareness and law compliance among citizens and enterprises.
Looking ahead, the market is expected to continue facing impacts from factors such as fuel price fluctuations, natural disasters, epidemics, and the growth of e-commerce. Smuggling, commercial fraud, and counterfeit goods trading may increase with more sophisticated methods. In response, market management forces will continue implementing comprehensive measures, including specialised inspections, digital transformation, improved handling of public reports, and stricter discipline in public service.
Strengthening market control has contributed to stabilising prices, protecting consumer rights, and fostering a healthy business environment. This also serves as a vital foundation for Son La’s sustainable economic development amid integration and ongoing uncertainties.
