Son La’s aquaculture production reaches over 8,100 tonnes

Since the beginning of this year, the total aquaculture production in Son La province has reached over 8,100 tonnes, including nearly 7,000 tonnes from farming and over 1,100 tonnes from fishing.

Currently, the entire province has 3,011 hectares dedicated to aquaculture, with 7,100 fish cages on the reservoirs of hydropower plants.

Agricultural extension officers from the province and the Agricultural Service Center of Quynh Nhai district inspect a fish farming support model in the Son La hydropower reservoir.

Relevant authorities have been actively promoting disaster prevention and fish disease control among local communities. They have organised training programmes to transfer techniques on cage and cold-water fish farming.

They have also guided fish breeders on how to implement safe production practices, use controlled fingerlings and feed, and ensure quality to improve economic efficiency. At the same time, they have encouraged cooperatives and business households to diversify local products to enhance competitiveness and invest in cold storage facilities and seafood processing plants.
