During the working session, WB representatives and leaders of the provincial departments discussed and evaluated the solutions. The project was proposed to have a designed total length of approximately 6.6 km, featuring two tunnel sections with lengths of 0.5 km and 2 km, along with various ancillary items such as barriers, trash screens, dams, ditches, and others.

However, the chosen option features a tunnel combined with an open ditch running along National Highway 279D, draining floodwater from Chieng Xom commune in Son La city to Muong Bu commune in Muong La district. The estimated cost for construction and equipment is approximately 720 billion VND (28.4 million USD).

Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong addresses the function.

In his remarks, Cong asked the WB delegation to continue to support and coordinate with the provincial units to complete the technical assistance programme, including considering additional studies on the implementation of the Nam La stream flood control work and solutions for flood prevention and mitigation of flood impacts on the urban area of Son La city, and along Nam La stream.

He assigned the Department of Planning and Investment to coordinate with the provincial ODA Project Management Board and other relevant units to work with the WB to complete procedures for receiving project support fees, provide necessary information, data and documents, and continue to effectively implement technical assistance.
