The meeting was attended by Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; members of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee; representatives from provincial departments and agencies; and leaders of Son La city.

In 2024, the city successfully achieved all 18 socio-economic targets set for the year. Continued investment in urban infrastructure development has helped Son La city meet 42 out of 59 criteria for a first-tier city. The urbanization process has been in tandem with the population scale and urban development, reaching a rate of 69.38%. Son La has also become an official member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Hoang Quoc Khanh speaks at the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Khanh emphasised the need for the provincial People’s Committee to continue directing relevant departments, agencies, and sectors to effectively implement tasks and solutions aimed at gradually building Son La into a first-tier city with green, fast, and sustainable development. This must be done in accordance with the provincial Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, which has been approved by the Prime Minister, he said.

He also tasked the Steering Committee’s working groups to coordinate with departments and agencies to mobilise and efficiently utilise resources to implement technical infrastructure and urban development projects. Efforts should be made to remove obstacles for investors and to speed up the progress of ongoing projects.

The Standing Board of the city Party Committee should continue to work closely with relevant sectors and units to review related construction and sectoral plans, ensuring that they form a solid foundation to attract investment in the city, he stated. He urged advancing the development of plans for urban classification and administrative boundary adjustments.
