Son La’s Association of the Elderly established

The provincial Association of the Elderly for the 2024-2029 period was set up on November 21, following the congress of the Representative Board of the provincial Association of the Elderly.

The congress saw the presence of Truong Xuan Cu, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly; and Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, among others.

Pursuant to Conclusion No. 58-KL/TW of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, dated January 31, 2024, the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee issued Conclusion No. 1036-KL/TU on agreeing with the policy of converting the model of "Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly" at the provincial and district levels into "Association of the Elderly" at the provincial and district levels. At the congress, Decision No. 2052/QD-UBND dated October 2, 2024 on allowing the establishment of the Association of the Elderly in Son La province was announced.

After 29 years of development,  the provincial Association of the Elderly currently has 12 chapters at the district and city level, and 204 in communes and towns with nearly 120,000 members. Associations at all levels have done a good job of advising the local Party committees and authorities to visit and give gifts to elder people, especially those who are poor, lonely, and homeless. Since 2017, 145 collectives and individuals have received the certificates of merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, and 300 collectives and individuals have been granted with the certificates of merit from the Chairperson of the provincial People's Committee and from agencies at all levels and sectors.

Speaking at the event, Hung requested the associations at all levels to continue to implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies for the elderly, and promote their core role in the movement "All people care for and promote the role of the elderly", thus meeting the requirements of the tasks in the new situation.

They were requested to help more elder people living in difficult circumstances, and encourage the elderly to participate in campaigns and patriotic emulation movements, and promote experience in various fields, contributing to the development of Son La province.

The congress elected 23 individuals to the Executive Board of the provincial Association of the Elderly for the 2024-2029 term.
