Contest aims to raise Son La children’s awareness of tobacco prevention

The provincial Youth Activity Centre, in collaboration with the Youth Studies Institute and the Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control Fund, on April 26-27 organised a contest to raise Son La children’s awareness of tobacco prevention and control. The contest featured 12 teams from localities across the province.

The teams competed in three categories: introduction, public speaking, and short plays, all centred around raising awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco and the benefits of a smoke-free environment.

In the introduction part, presented in a theatrical style, the teams showcased their creativity by combining dance, singing, poetry, folk chanting, and short skits to introduce their teams while skillfully weaving messages promoting tobacco and e-cigarette prevention, as well as encouraging the building of a smoke-free environment.

In the speaking part, contestants demonstrated their knowledge and presentation skills before an audience, delivering clear speeches with well-structured arguments and specific examples about diseases caused by tobacco use and its negative impacts on the environment and public health.

The contest aims to raise children's awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco and e-cigarettes, helping them better understand the Tobacco Harm Prevention Law, related legal documents, regulations prohibiting smoking in public places, and penalties for violations.
