From the night of September 27 to dawn of September 28, the rainfall in Phu Yen district reached 100mm, causing floods and landslides, sweeping away three people in Muong Lang commune, including a child born in 2018. The district mobilized forces and people to urgently search for the victims. By 9 a.m. on September 30, three bodies were found and handed over to their families for burial.
Heavy rain damaged over 20,000sq.m of road surface, with 23,390cu.m of soil and rock sliding. There were 125 locations hit by landslides on provincial roads and many other inter-commune roads. The downpours destroyed 26 traffic and irrigation works, and swept away and inundated more than 66 hectares of summer-autumn rice and corn. The floods also submerged 50 houses while landslides hit eight houses and caused two households to evacuate to another place. Total damage is estimated at about 83.5 billion VND (3.44 million USD).
Phu Yen district has directed the relevant forces and localities to urgently overcome the consequences of rain and floods under the motto "four on-the-spots"; visit, encourage and provide timely support to families whose members were swept away by floods. Machinery and human resources have been mobilized to level and clear locations hit by landslides and regulate traffic, ensuring smooth travel. The competent forces have also placed warning signs of dangerous areas and erected fences in areas at risk of landslide after floods.
Immediately after the floods, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep and a working delegation of the provincial authorities came to inspect the situation and direct efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disasters in the locality. The Deputy Minister also appreciated the efforts by Son La province and Phu Yen district in overcoming flood aftermath under the motto "four on-the-spots".
Up to now, the landslide-hit locations have been fixed, ensuring smooth traffic. Phu Yen district has directed units to continue mobilizing vehicles, equipment, and human resources to patrol roads, appoint personnel on duty, and place barriers and signs to ensure traffic safety on roads. It has also supported affected localities to surmount flood consequences and quickly stabilize people's production and life.
