Programme enhances solidarity between soldiers, residents

The provincial Military Command on January 20-21 coordinated with the provincial Youth Union, the People's Committee of Muong La district and a number of agencies, units and benefactors in organising a programme to bring a warm Lunar New Year (Tet) to residents in Chieng Lao commune, Muong La district.

Agencies, units, businesses, and benefactors inside and outside the province donated nearly 900 Tet gifts and 1 tonne of sticky rice to policy beneficiary families, people who rendered services to the nation, vulnerable people, poor households, and poor students with outstanding academic performance in Chieng Lao commune. They presented 370 jackets, 209 blankets, one large-capacity rice cooker, one water purifier, 160 kg of rice, 100 ‘chung’ (square glutinous rice) cakes to local students.

They also supported the construction of two “great solidarity” houses for poor households, each worth 20 million VND (815 USD), for two families in difficult circumstances, and presented more than 200 national flags and Uncle Ho's photos to locals.

Officers and soldiers of the provincial Military Command made a100m road in Phieng Cai hamlet, Chieng Lao commune. Free medical examination and treatment and medicine were offered to over 550 policy beneficiaries and poor households in the commune.

The programme’s total value was over 1 billion VND (40,733 USD).

In addition, art exchanges and “chung” cake wrapping, tug-of-war, stick-pushing and shuttlecock-throwing competitions were organized, bringing in a cheerful and warm atmosphere, thus creating a strong bond between soldiers and people.
