In Son La province, more than 10,000 tonnes of plastic waste are generated annually. The largest amounts are reported in To Hieu, Chieng Coi, Chieng An, and Chieng Sinh wards, with over 3,000 tonnes per year; followed by Thao Nguyen, Moc Chau, Moc Son, and Van Son, with more than 2,000 tonnes per year. This situation calls for raising awareness, changing behaviours, and taking concrete actions by both individuals and collectives.

The “Clean Up the World” campaign is not only about cleaning and collecting waste but also conveys a powerful message: living in harmony with nature and taking joint action for a sustainable future. It is also an opportunity to spread the spirit of “One good deed by each person, a cleaner world for all,” turning environmental protection awareness into a civilised and sustainable lifestyle.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Cong called on officials, civil servants, youth union members, young people, and local residents to actively sort waste at source; make use of organic waste for compost; reuse paper, plastics, and metals; and limit the use of single-use plastics and nylon bags.

He also encouraged participation in environmental protection activities such as Green Sundays, general clean-ups, waste battery collection, and tree planting and care. Schools are expected to spread the message of environmental protection through lessons, extracurricular activities, and social media so that each student becomes a young environmental ambassador.

During the programme, students also learned about the origins and harmful effects of waste, methods of sorting waste at source, and ways to reduce single-use plastics. They took part in a recycled fashion show contest and short performances.
