"String of love" - A 4-star OCOP tourism product

Dai Yem Waterfall, located in Muong Sang ward, Moc Chau township, is known as "Sai Peng" in Thai, which means "the string of love." The stream where the waterfall flows down is called "Ho Hen (Dating) Stream."  The waterfall cascades in a frothy white rush, creating a scene that is both majestic and poetic, peaceful and serene. The stunning natural landscape is linked with a romantic love story of a couple.

From a high vantage point, Dai Yem Waterfall, with a height of over 100 meters, is divided into two main cascades: one with nine layers and the other with five layers, resembling the stages of love. The waterfall has been heavily invested in by the Pha Luong Tourism Joint Stock Company, which has developed several facilities such as a four-season flower lake, a love glass bridge, and a watch tower. Upon visiting the Dai Yem Waterfall ecotourism site, one is immediately struck by the lush greenery of the trees, accentuated by colourful flower gardens. The buildings are designed in harmony with the natural surroundings, and this destination has been recognised as a 4-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) tourism product.

Dinh Hong Phuc, Deputy Director of the Pha Luong Tourism Joint Stock Company, shared: "A few years ago, when we first heard the term OCOP, we thought it was only for local agricultural products. However, after studying and receiving guidance from relevant authorities, we realised that our tourism site met the criteria for an OCOP tourism product, such as being locally sourced, having a brand, reflecting the local culture, and utilising local advantages. Then, we registered and received the certification as a 4-star OCOP tourism product."

With the mission to preserve, maintain, and develop local culture, the Dai Yem Waterfall ecotourism site provides local residents with free stalls that offer food services and traditional products. The site also organises food safety training and maintains cultural activities of the local Thai ethnic group.

At the age of over 60, Hoang Thi Not, a resident of Vat Hong residential area, Muong Sang ward, still enthusiastically guides visitors to the tourism site, allowing them to have fascinating experiences with the loom, shuttle, and various stages of brocade weaving, such as spinning yarn, setting the loom, creating patterns, weaving, and dyeing, which are traditional skills of the Thai ethnic group. She said that thanks to the tourism site, she has a booth to introduce the brocade weaving craft of the Thai people to tourists.

Nguyen Hoai Thu from Hanoi shared: "Here, I can immerse myself in the beautiful nature, explore, and experience the traditional craft of brocade weaving, wickerwork, and other crafts of the Thai people. I also got to taste the dishes from the northwestern mountains and we felt like we were part of the space and the people here."

The highlight of the tourism site is Dai Yem Waterfall, which stands at over 100 meters high, with two parts: the waterfall and a clear stream below. The upper part of the waterfall has nine layers, symbolising the nine stages of love, while the lower has five layers. Between the two waterfall parts is a green, moss-covered meadow, perfect for visitors to take photos. At the foot of the waterfall is a large stream with crystal-clear water like emerald, quietly blending with the surrounding rocks and small caves, offering visitors a delightful experience of both the mysterious and majestic natural scenery.

The development of the Dai Yem Waterfall ecotourism site, which has been recognised as a 4-star OCOP tourism product, has created a harmonious blend of nature, culture, and the local people. It has become an attractive destination for tourists visiting the Moc Chau Plateau, contributing to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, protecting the environment, and increasing the income of the local people.
