Cooperatives join hands with farmers in poverty reduction

The National Agricultural Extension Centre, the Central New Rural Coordination Office, and the Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup) co-organised a handover ceremony for the project "Cooperatives partnering with farmers in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction” and launched a training course on the project at the Tay Bac University on October 2.

Launched by the Thien Tam Fund in 2022, the project began with three pilot models in the northern provinces of Thai Nguyen and Son La. It was expanded to 20 models last year.

Representatives from cooperatives receive project funding.

In 2024, the project has targeted 20 cooperatives in northern mountainous localities, and Thai Binh province, Hanoi, and Hai Phong city, also in the north. Each cooperative receives financial assistance of 1 billion VND (40,543 USD) from the Thien Tam Fund to implement the project. Son La alone has four cooperatives.

Lecturers are experts from the National Agricultural Extension Centre and the Reference Testing and Agrifood Quality Services Centre, and others from the Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Institute of Management for Agricultural and Rural Development.

It focuses on business planning, brand recognition, the management of cooperatives, finance, and accounting. Topics also cover pest management for citrus crops and techniques for cultivating oranges and grapefruits according to VietGAP standards.

The participants will also visit outstanding economic models in Son La.
