Dried fruits – Tet flavour of Son La people

As the Lunar New Year (Tet) approaches, many businesses and cooperatives in Son La have produced dried fruit products with diverse packaging, appealing in both design and taste, conquering consumers and becoming a popular gift choice for Tet.

Founded in 2019, Hai Dang Food Technology Co., Ltd. in Son La city has been bringing the authentic flavours of Son La fruits closer to consumers both within and outside the province. After more than five years of development, the company has developed and perfected approximately 30 products made from local specialty fruits, such as plum, apricot, mango, banana, pineapple, papaya, and guava. These products are carefully selected and processed using modern methods to preserve their natural flavour and nutritional value.

In addition to its own creations, Hai Dang Food Technology Co., Ltd. also collaborates with Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company, Minh Tien Group Joint Stock Company (MTG), and others to produce a wide range of products and create unique gift sets that cater to retail customers. For the upcoming Tet market, the company's gift sets are priced from 300,000 to 1 million VND (40 USD) per set.

With nearly 20 years of experience in fruit production and processing, the 19/5 Agricultural Development Service Cooperative in Moc Chau Farm town, Moc Chau district, has also continuously expanded its production scale and developed dried products made from plum, apricot, and mango.

From these three main types of fruit, the cooperative has launched 16 diverse dried products, such as ginger-dried plum, honey-dried plum, original-flavoured dried plum, herbal dried plum, and chewy dried mango. Notably, products like ginger-dried, honey-dried, and herbal dried plums have been recognised as 4-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) products at the provincial level, affirming their exceptional quality. To meet the demand for the upcoming Tet, the cooperative has already harvested and purchased 500 tonnes of fresh plum, apricot, and mango to process into 30 tonnes of dried fruit. After processing, the products are packaged, labeled, and supplied to domestic distributors and some retail chains nationwide.

Following market trends, many businesses and cooperatives in the province have actively invested in machinery and modern production lines, applying advanced technologies to process dried fruits. They are continuously developing diverse products to meet the growing demands of consumers, while also addressing the challenges posed by the seasonal nature of fresh fruits.

The dried plum and mango products are carefully packaged and labeled, ensuring food safety and hygiene.

For example, the Quyet Thanh Moc Chau Agricultural Cooperative in Moc Chau district, the Dat Thuy One Member LLC in Mai Son district, and the Bao Minh Agricultural Services Cooperative in Song Ma district have produced several OCOP-certified products, including ginger-dried plum, honey-dried plum, herbal-dried plum, chewy persimmon, chewy passion fruit, dried longan, and chewy guava.

Dried fruits are becoming a popular Tet gift choice, favoured by consumers for their convenience, safety, health benefits, and deep cultural significance. The growth of dried fruit production businesses and cooperatives in Son La province not only enhances the value of local agricultural products and meets market demand but also creates a unique characteristic for the Tet flavours of Son La people.
