The research project has been carried out in Huoi Cha hamlet, Nam Man commune from September 2020 to December 2023, with more than 1 hectare of rice. Its funding comes from the provincial budget for science.
During the period, the research team have conducted surveys, collected data, and analysed the traits of the sticky rice variety grown in the commune. They also selected and evaluated pure seeds, among other activities, in order to determine farming techniques for this type of grain.
Initial results show that the sticky rice variety grows well, has concentrated tillering with limited ineffective tillering, and show resistance against lodging and pests, thus reducing input costs. Its yield reaches 5.6 tonnes per ha, ensuring good quality and economic efficiency.
The national centre for testing plant varieties and products assessed and certified 20 lines, with 400 kg of rice harvested as pure seeds. It is expected that after the project is completed, 1,000 kg of pure seeds will be handed over to the district for production./.
