NA Standing Committee’s Resolution on arrangement of commune-level administrative units in Thuan Chau district announced

Thuan Chau district held a ceremony on January 13 to announce the National Assembly Standing Committee’s Resolution on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units in the district and the decision of the provincial People's Committee on recognising Thuan Chau urban area (expanded Thuan Chau town) as a tier-5 urban area.

The resolution, issued by the NA Standing Committee on November 14, 2024, adjusts part of the natural area and population of Chieng Ly and Phong Lang communes to merge into Thuan Chau town.

Under the resolution, which takes effect from February 1, 2025, Phong Ly commune is established on the basis of merging a part of the natural area and population of Chieng Bom commune and the entire natural area and population of Chieng Ly and Phong Lang communes.

After adjustments, Chieng Bom commune has a natural area of ​​66.51 sq.km and a population of 5,080. It borders Co Ma, Nam Lau, Phong Ly and Pung Tra communes, and Thuan Chau town.

At the ceremony, the district People's Committee also announced Decision No. 1264/QD-UBND dated June 30, 2024 of the provincial People's Committee on recognising Thuan Chau urban area (expanded Thuan Chau town) as meeting the criteria of a tier-5 urban area.

Speaking at the event, Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, emphasised that the arrangement of administrative units to reduce the number of units and concentrate investment resources on socio-economic development is extremely necessary and consistent with the development trend, policies and orientations of the Party Central Committee, the Government, and the province, in order to promote the development of Thuan Chau district.

Expanding Thuan Chau town and recognising Thuan Chau urban area as a tier-5 one is an important premise to expand development space and urban development, promote socio-economic development, and improve the material and spiritual lives of local people, added Hung.

On this occasion, the provincial People's Committee presented certificates of merit to one collective and three individuals, while the district People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to four collectives and 13 individuals with outstanding achievements in building the project on rearrangement of commune-level administrative units for the 2023-2025 period.
