Son La police intensifies crime crackdown ahead of key events

The Son La provincial Department of Public Security on December 12 launched a campaign to intensify its crackdown on crime and safeguard security and public order ahead of the 14th National Party Congress, the elections of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 tenure, the 2026 Lunar New Year and early-year festivals.

The campaign will run from December 15, 2025, to March 16, 2026. Son La police will mobilise personnel, vehicles and technical resources and roll out concerted and drastic measures to prevent and combat crime, aiming to stop offenses that could stir public concern.

The force will place particular focus on breaking up organised crime, loan-sharking networks, and cases involving weapons or explosives, as well as robbery, extortion, theft and fraud.

The force will also review and monitor drug-related offenders, targeting and dismantling major and transnational rings. Authorities will step up oversight of residency, immigration, weapons and explosives, while tightening traffic safety and fire-prevention measures. Police will crack down on economic crimes, trade fraud, counterfeit and banned goods, as well as violations of environmental and food-safety regulations. They will also work to prevent the illicit use of fireworks during the Lunar New Year.

Speaking at the event, Tien called on the provincial police to fully prepare personnel and equipment to carry out the campaign effectively. He urged the force to deploy synchronised professional measures and promptly prevent, detect and handle emerging security and public-order issues at the grassroots level.

He also requested departments, agencies, units and localities to work closely with the police, resolve arising problems, and mobilise the broader political system and the public to help maintain security and order.
