Son La provincial Association of Former Teachers holds 3rd Congress

The Son La provincial Association of Former Teachers held its third Congress for the 2024-2029 term on November 5-6.

Attending the event were Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; leaders of the Vietnam Association of Former Teachers, and provincial departments and sectors, and the Associations of Former Teachers of Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Hoa Binh provinces; and 104 delegates representing 4,820 members of the provincial Association of Former Teachers.

In the 2019-2024 term, the provincial Association of Former Teachers has implemented and completed the targets set by the Congress Resolution, including maintaining the operation of the sssociation’s branches in all districts and Son La city, 120 chapters at commune, ward and town levels, with a total of 4,820 members. Over the past five years, the association has helped protect the legitimate rights and interests for its members, and encouraged them to set good examples in life, and enthusiastically participate in social work. During the term, it organised longevity celebrations for 450 members; and visited 1,540 members when they were sick; and helped 25 incumbent teachers who were in trouble or had serious illnesses, with a total amount of more than 200 million VND (7,880 USD).

With the motto of "Solidarity - Care - Intelligence - Responsibility", in the 2024-2029 term, the association will focus on consolidating and building a comprehensive and strong association,  and strive to attract 95% of retired teachers as members.

Speaking at the event, Cong requested departments and agencies to facilitate the association’s activities. He asked the association to take better care of the material and spiritual lives of members, and coordinate with the provincial Association for Promoting Education to effectively implement the movement to promote learning, encourage talents, and build a learning society.

The congress elected 21 members of the Executive Committee of the provincial Association of Former Teachers for the third term, with Meritorious Teacher Cam Thi Kieu elected President.

On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of Former Teachers awarded the certificates of merit to nine collectives and seven individuals; the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee presented the certificates of merit to one collective and two individuals; while the provincial Association of Former Teachers granted the certificates of merit to five collectives and nine individuals with outstanding achievements in the association movement in the 2019-2024 period.
