The programme saw the participation of more than 200 students from high schools across Son La city and 60 soldiers of Regiment 754 under the provincial Military Command, along with a large number of people and visitors.
At the programme, students from the provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities, To Hieu High School and Nguyen Du High School in Son La city joined a history competition.
Each school formed a five-member team to participate in the competition. The teams went through three parts, namely “Resounding across the five continents and shaking the globe”, “From Lung Lo to Pha Din – A historical route,” and “The General in the hearts of the people.”
Each part consisted of multiple choice questions, and those in the form of question and answer, during which the participants showed off their understanding and knowledge about the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
The programme also featured activities for the audience, including cultural exchanges, bamboo dance, a quiz on the Son La Prison special national relic site and a history-culture exhibition space at the museum.
On this occasion, the museum opened an exhibition themed "Memories of Dien Bien", showcasing 98 photos, 27 stories and excerpts related to the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
It was divided into two parts, one on Son La - the direct rear of the campaign, images and stories about the early stages of newly liberated Son La, and personnel and material support for the Dien Bien Phu campaign; and another on Dien Bien Phu – a historical epic, telling about the campaign, Dien Bien Phu Victory and its significance.
