Incense-offering ceremony held in tribute to fallen soldiers at To Hieu Martyrs’ Cemetery

The provincial steering committee for the search, recovery and identification of martyrs’ remains, together with leaders of To Hieu ward, on June 3 held an incense-offering ceremony in tribute to heroic martyrs at the ward Martyrs’ Cemetery before carrying out the exhumation and collection of samples for DNA testing to identify the martyrs’ remains.

Attending the ceremony were Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Tien,  who heads the provincial steering committee, members of the steering committee, and leaders of several provincial departments, agencies and mass organisations.

As part of the 500-day campaign to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of martyrs’ remains in preparation for the 80th anniversary of Invalids and Martyrs Day, Party committees, authorities, armed forces and people across Son La province are actively implementing measures to effectively carry out the works, with the aim of bringing the fallen heroes back to their hometowns, families and comrades.

The delegation laid wreaths, offered incense and observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation.

The provincial steering committee directed To Hieu ward to take the lead in collecting samples, transferring them for analysis, and digitising information on martyrs’ remains in order to draw lessons and standardise implementation methods for province-wide deployment. Accordingly, samples will be collected from 115 unidentified graves at the cemetery for identification.
