The People's Committee of Chieng Khoong commune on July 18 held the 2026 Longan Pitting Competition and Online Sales Festival for Longan Products.

Longan is one of the key crops in Chieng Khoong, with about 1,165 hectares. This year's output is estimated at around 6,500 tonnes, making a significant contribution to job creation and local economic development.

The commune has promoted the application of advanced farming techniques, developed concentrated cultivation areas that meet food safety and export standards, built the local longan brand, and fostered the growth the dried longan processing trade village. At the same time, it has supported local growers in adopting e-commerce and livestream selling to diversify promotional channels and expand market access for their products.

This marked the first time the commune has organised a longan pitting competition combined with an online sales event, aiming to honour the traditional dried longan processing craft while promoting the commune's signature agricultural products.

The event also provided an opportunity for cooperatives, farming households, businesses, and youth union members to exchange experience, learn from one another, embrace digital transformation, and expand market access. It is expected to enhance the value and reputation of the Chieng Khoong longan brand while contributing to the development of a modern and sustainable agricultural sector.

The festival featured a vibrant lineup of practical activities, including five exhibition booths showcasing fresh longans, processed longan products, and OCOP (One Commune One Product) items from local cooperatives and hamlets.

KOLs (Key opinion leaders) also interacted with participants, shared their experiences in online marketing, and guided cooperatives on building online sales channels and implementing e-commerce models across popular digital platforms, helping expand market access for locally grown longans.

The highlight of the festival, attracting large crowds of local residents, was the longan pitting competition which brought together 17 teams, with 51 contestants representing the commune's 17 hamlets.
