Son La has 3,132 fallen soldiers, of whom 2,363 either have unidentified graves or graves where no remains are present. Police have identified 2,406 maternal-line relatives eligible for DNA sample collection. Prior to the launch of the campaign, 2,004 relatives had agreed to participate in the DNA sampling process.

The peak campaign will run from July 19 to July 23. The Son La Department of Public Security has established three provincial-level task forces to conduct centralised DNA sample collection at 12 communes and wards that formerly served as district and city administrative centres, with an additional collection site set up in Chieng An ward.

The task forces will operate on a rolling schedule, moving to the next locality upon completing sample collection in the previous one. For elderly participants or those with health conditions preventing travel, mobile teams will collect DNA samples at their places of residence.

The DNA sample collection is being carried out under a strict procedure, including identity verification, sample collection, and completion of the required documentation. The work holds significant political and humanitarian importance, contributing to the development of the National DNA Database to support the identification of unidentified fallen soldiers.

It also helps fulfill the wishes of martyrs' families while reflecting Vietnam's enduring traditions of remembering those who sacrificed for the nation and expressing gratitude to those who rendered distinguished service to the country.
