Volunteers in blue power exam season

As each exam season arrives, the blue shirts of youth and student volunteers once again become a familiar sight at test venues across the country, standing alongside candidates and their parents to provide support. During this year’s national high school graduation exam, the image of energetic and dedicated volunteers has continued to resonate, underscoring the pioneering and volunteering spirit of Vietnam’s younger generation in serving the community.

In late May, Chu Van An Primary, Secondary and High School, part of Tay Bac University, held its competency assessment for sixth-grade admissions for the 2026–2027 academic year. On the morning of the exam day, heavy rain poured down, prompting the school to mobilise more than 60 youth union members to escort candidates to the test site and prepare water and milk for them. Despite being drenched by the downpour, the volunteers remained warm and upbeat, helping students make their way into examination rooms.

Nguyen Thanh Ngan, head of the volunteer team at Chu Van An Primary, Secondary and High School, said that beyond supporting the sixth-grade entrance exam, the team has also helped with the 10th-grade admission exam and the 2026 national high school graduation exam.

“We are delighted to contribute our youth and energy to support candidates in these important exams, hoping to help them stay calm, confident and achieve the best possible results,” Ngan said.

For the 2026 national high school graduation exam, the youth union at Chieng Sinh High School deployed 155 members to support candidates. Khong Huyen Anh said thanks to prior training, she and fellow volunteers were able to carry out support activities effectively throughout the three-day exam period.

Across communes and wards in the province, grassroots youth unions rolled out practical support measures for candidates. Lo Van Tung, Secretary of the Sop Cop commune youth union, said the union had coordinated with youth unions in Pung Banh, Muong Lan and Muong Leo communes, along with the Nam Lanh Border Guard Station, to form five volunteer teams with 100 members. The initiative also arranged 15 free motorbike rides for candidates and mobilised support from local organisations and businesses, securing water bottles, cakes and candy.

As part of the 2026 exam support campaign, the standing board of the provincial Youth Union directed grassroots chapters to draw up plans and mobilise members to assist candidates, while organising fundraising activities and tapping social resources for the effort.

During the recent exam rounds, more than 200 volunteer teams were set up across the province, with nearly 4,000 volunteers deployed. Volunteers were on hand early at each test site to guide candidates and direct traffic, distributing 23,300 bottles of water, 8,800 cartons of milk, 5,900 portions of cakes and snacks, and 2,299 free meals, along with thousands of learning materials and daily necessities for candidates.

Lo Thi Mai Lan, a candidate at the To Hieu High School exam site, said she lives in Pua Nhot hamlet, Chieng Coi ward, about 20 kilometres from the school. During the two-day exam, she was provided with two free breakfasts and one free lunch, which gave her more motivation to do better in the exam.

Cam Thi Huyen Trang, Secretary of the provincial Youth Union, said this year’s exam support drives showcased the pioneering and volunteering spirit of youth union members in serving the community. Youth unions in communes and wards without exam sites had proactively linked up with those hosting test venues to carry out volunteer activities. In particular, efforts to mobilise social resources were carried out effectively, helping provide the best possible support for candidates and contributing to safe and successful exams.

Driven by a spirit of pioneering and volunteerism, the 2026 exam support campaign was carried out in a timely and effective manner, underscoring the important role of youth union members in standing alongside candidates during each exam season. The sight of blue-shirted volunteers at test sites contributed to the success of the exams while spreading acts of kindness and compassion among the community.
