Moc Chau boosts economic and cultural exchanges with Lao district

To implement the Party's guidelines and the policies of the State and the province regarding foreign relations, Moc Chau district has continuously maintained and developed strong ties with Sop Bao district of Laos’ Houaphanh province through various economic and cultural exchanges, and activities to ensure border security.

Moc Chau has three communes—Chieng Son, Long Sap, and Chieng Khua—that border Sop Bao. Based on the signed agreements, the two districts have regularly held meetings to exchange information about their respective situations. They have promoted solidarity and friendship among the residents of border communities, organized cultural and sports activities, and supported residents’ economic development, thus maintaining political stability and ensuring border security.

Over the past four years, Moc Chau district has supported Pakhomnoi hamlet in Sop Bao with seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, and technical guidance on cultivating passion fruit. It has also provided 1,320 grafted mango seedlings and over 10 tonnes of organic fertilizers, with a total value of more than 220 million VND (8,732 USD). Additionally, it has supplied face masks, protective clothing, and cash worth over 200 million VND to the Lao district.

The district has effectively encouraged local residents and reputable individuals to participate in national border protection; and organised activities promoting economic development and cultural exchanges between the border communities of Vietnam and Laos, thereby building a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

Both districts have enhanced efforts to widely promote the cultural traditions of Vietnam and Laos, as well as their special friendship and comprehensive cooperation. Moc Chau’s healthcare facilities have created favourable conditions for Sop Bao residents to seek medical care; and strengthened disease prevention measures to avoid outbreaks along the border. Notably, on September 17, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Medical Station in Long Sap provided first aid and promptly transported four Lao children suffering from mushroom poisoning to the Moc Chau General Hospital, saving their lives.

Regarding coordination in protecting political security at the border, military, police, and border guard forces have regularly exchanged information related to security in each country’s border areas. They have also implemented timely measures to resolve any arising problems according to the established cooperation regulations. Regular joint patrols between the Long Sap Border Station (Moc Chau) and Border Company 214 (Sop Bao) are held quarterly, with extra ones as needed.

To further strengthen relations with Sop Bao, Moc Chau will continue to persuade border residents to adhere to the agreement on border regulations and promote the tradition of Vietnam-Laos solidarity.

The district will advance economic cooperation programmes, provide technical support in agriculture and forestry, and organize training sessions for Sop Bao residents. Activities fostering connections between the two districts’ people, including cultural exchanges and border tourism development, will be maintained. The two sides will keep joint patrols to protect border areas, contributing to building a borderline of peace, stability, cooperation and development.
