Over the past time, under the leadership of the two Parties and Governments, all-level Party committees, authorities, officers and soldiers, and people of all ethnic groups in the two provinces have carried forward the tradition of special solidarity and friendship, and strengthened comprehensive cooperation in the fields of economy - society, and defence - security.

Authorities of border districts, communes, and hamlets and armed force units of both sides have regularly exchanged information, conducted border patrols and proactively resolved emerging incidents such as encroachment, free migration, illegal border crossings and other problems relating to border security and order.

Competent forces of both sides have worked to facilitate the circulation of essential goods via the border, granted licences to over 90,000 people and vehicles to immigrate, and traded more than 4,000 tonnes of agricultural products and construction materials. Attention has also paid to promoting cooperation in economy, culture - society, and defence - security between the two sides’ specialised agencies and grassroots authorities.

At the meeting, the 20th of its kind, the two sides agreed to step up the implementation of two legal documents on the Vietnam - Laos border, along with the Parties' guidelines, and the States' policies and laws on the border work. They will also maintain their close coordination to stay updated on the border situation and the regular exchange of information about security and order to promptly handle arising incidents and build a common border of peace and friendship.

The localities will continue instructing competent agencies to research and provide consultations on mechanism building, paying heed to socio-economic development projects in border areas, and encouraging and creating conditions for their businesses to scope out the market and promote production and business cooperation in  border areas, thus contributing to fostering the traditional solidarity between the Party organisations, governments and people of the two provinces.
