Over the course of 10 years since its establishment, Son La province's Liaison Committee of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts in Laos has grown to include 69 sub-committees at the commune level, with nearly 4,000 members. Its head Ha Van Duc stated that the committee has regularly cooperated with the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the provincial Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association to promote education about the preservation of the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos. Special attention has been given to educating the younger generation, including students in both countries, fostering their close ties and patriotism.
The committee has actively participated in scientific seminars on the Vietnam-Laos solidarity; coordinated with the provincial Youth Union and Son La College to organise two "return-to-root" trips, bringing over 50 Lao students to the Vietnam-Laos historical revolutionary relic site in Lao Kho hamlet, Phieng Khoai commune, Yen Chau district. In 2024, the committee attended the 75th founding anniversary of the Lao People's Army in Sam Neua province; donated a computer and printer set worth 20 million VND (788 USD) to the Military Command of Laos’ Houaphanh province; raised 100 million VND to support a disadvantaged Lao soldier in Houaphanh province to repair his house; and delivered gifts to Lao students at colleges and universities in Son La on the occasion of Laos’ traditional Bunpimay Festival.
Dali Saikho, a Lao student currently studying at the Pharmacy Faculty of Son La Medical College, shared: "In nearly three years of studying in Son La, my friends and I have been visited and encouraged by the committee members, and we have received gifts during the Tet holidays. We will strive to study well and continue nurturing the special solidarity and friendship between our two countries."
The close bond between Vietnam and Laos has been forged through the sweat, effort, and bloodshed of many generations. It has been tempered through the flames of revolutionary struggle, becoming a friendship that cannot be broken. In this context, the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who helped Laos in general, and those from Son La province in particular, stand as bright symbols of this unwavering and steadfast relationship.
Today, the glorious and heroic traditions of the generations of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who carried out international missions in Laos continue to be preserved, promoted, and passed down to younger generations, making the Vietnam-Laos special relationship enduring and everlasting.
