The festival includes two parts: a thanksgiving ceremony to the mountain and river gods for good weather for local people of Xim Vang commune, and a festive part with many activities imbued with ethnic cultures such as an art performance contest, rice harvesting and threshing competitions, pounding ‘day’ cake (round sticky rice cake), panpipe performances, ‘pao’ (cloth ball) throwing, tug of war, and dress embroidery.
The festival is held on the occasion of the ripe rice season, with the aim of restoring, preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities; encourage locals to build a cultural life and expand specialised areas for ‘tan’ sticky rice cultivation.
It also offers a chance to strengthen the promotion and introduction of potential and cultural identities of ethnic groups associated with tourism development in Bac Yen district in general and Xim Vang commune in particular; and attract tourists inside and outside the province to experience and find investment opportunities.
