Son La focuses on improving quality of tourism human resources

Over the past years, the northern mountainous province of Son La has directed relevant agencies and localities to implement various solutions to improve professional knowledge and skills for tourism workers.

Son La has issued a number of policies related to orientations, solutions and regulations to support tourism development, including those for human resources development. Accordingly, the province has intensified the training of local human resources under a reasonable structure, with quantity and quality ensured; and at the same time, expanded regional links and prioritised linkages with large, reputable educational and training institutions in the country to train high-quality human resources for the industry.

The culture, sports and tourism sector has coordinated in organising training courses on multi-disciplinary tourism, especially for those directly working in the sector in rural areas. At present, the province has 5,100 tourism workers, of whom 55% have been trained.

In Moc Chau district, there are currently 295 operating accommodation establishments, accounting for nearly 50% of the total in the province; 400 catering and shopping service providers; 10 tourism zones, sites and hamlets; 12 enterprises offering tourism and travel services that are creating nearly 3,000 direct and indirect jobs. In the first six months of this year, the district welcomed over 1.3 million tourists. Moc Chau has coordinated with relevant units in holding training courses on tourism skills and ways to promote community-based tourism with diverse contents such as cooking skills, passenger transportation, English language, marketing, destination management, performance organization and environmental protection, thus contributing to improving professional skills, and developing tourism, especially community-based tourism.

By 2025, the province is striving to have from 7,000 to 10,000 jobs in the field of tourism, including about 3,000 direct jobs, with an average growth of 10-15% per year. The culture sector will continue to implement solutions to improve quality, towards standardising the province's tourism human resources, and ensuring sufficient conditions to welcome domestic and foreign tourists./.
